Why Is My Music Muted in a Facebook or Instagram Video?

In June 2022, Meta (including Facebook and Instagram) updated how it handles music licensing in videos, especially in regions where monetization isn’t yet available. This means even if your content is properly licensed, your video might get muted in certain territories due to platform policy—not necessarily because of a rights violation.

If your music has been muted but you have the necessary rights, you can file an appeal directly through Facebook or Instagram to restore the audio.

What This Means for Kingsmen Studio Clients

  • Muting may occur in locations where Meta hasn't enabled audio monetization yet.

  • Muting isn’t always a claim—sometimes it's a licensing mismatch by region.

What You Can Do

Step

Action

1

Check the video’s Region Analytics to identify where the audio is muted.

2

If you have full rights to the song, appeal the muting directly on the platform (Facebook or Instagram).

3

Reach out to Kingsmen Studio support if issues persist—we can assist with documentation or further follow-up.
