When uploading your tracks via Kingsmen Studio, two key metadata fields are essential:
Track Origin — how the song was created or sourced
Track Properties — characteristics that affect how the recording is handled
Accurate classification unlocks smooth delivery and helps avoid issues with DSPs, especially on user-generated-content platforms.
Track Origin
This pertains to the song’s composition (melody, lyrics, structure). You must choose one of the following:
Original Work
You created the song yourself—no part of someone else’s composition is used. Even remixes may qualify if they transform the work entirely.
Cover Song
The song is someone else’s composition, and you’re offering a new recording without substantial changes to melody, lyrics, or structure. Translated or lyrically adapted versions still count as covers.
Public Domain & Traditional
The composition is free of copyright—either public domain, traditional, or religious works with no ownership.
Track Properties
These relate to the recording itself—how it differs from the original. Multiple properties may apply:
Remix or Derivative — A new version that alters the original, including pitch changes, speed edits, or lyric additions. Covers with adapted lyrics are also considered derivative.
Samples or Stock — Incorporates external audio, loops, or library samples not originally created by you.
Others (per API definitions) — Such as compilations, alternate versions, AI-generated content, or non-musical elements (like spoken word). These are used internally to ensure compliance.
Why This Matters
Correctly tagging your track:
Ensures proper licensing and metadata integrity
Helps DSPs recognize your content appropriately
Avoids disputes and rejections—especially on platforms like TikTok, YouTube, or Facebook UGC
