Why a Release Still Shows as Live on Spotify After a Takedown

Even after submitting a takedown request to Spotify, the track or release may still appear accessible. But don’t worry—it’s not truly live.

What’s Really Happening

  • Spotify leaves a “shell” in place of the release. This helps maintain playlist structure and ensures track linking remains intact. As a result, the item may still be accessible via direct links, but:

    • The release will be grayed out

    • It won’t be searchable

    • It won’t appear on the artist’s page

    • It remains playable only via its exact URI or URL

  • Additionally, Spotify’s system typically handles takedown requests within 2 business days. However, the interface may still display the shell until cleanup is fully completed

Recommended Steps

Action

Purpose

Check with a direct URI or URL

Confirm that the release still appears only in a greyed-out, unsearchable state

Verify via your delivery dashboard

Use Revelator’s tools to confirm the takedown status

Wait 2 business days

Spotify often needs this time to fully process takedown requests
