If you've already delivered a release and need to replace the audio—say, due to a technical error or incorrect file—here's how to do it efficiently and correctly through Kingsmen Studio.
Can You Replace the Audio?
Yes, but only if both of the following conditions are met:
You must be replacing due to a technical issue (like crackling, silence, or corruption).
The new audio file must be very close in length to the original—ideally within 2 seconds. Some DSPs may reject updates with longer duration differences.
Solution 1: If Your Replacement Meets the Criteria
Use this simple process if your replacement is technical and duration-compatible:
Go to your Kingsmen Studio dashboard and access the release via Assets → Music → [select release].
On the release's Overview page, click Edit.
Select the track you want to update.
Click the Replace Audio link near the waveform interface.
Upload your corrected audio file.
Save your changes.
Redistribute the release to all DSPs to apply the update.
Solution 2: If the Replacement Doesn’t Meet the Criteria
If the new audio file differs by more than 2 seconds or isn’t just a minor technical fix:
Create a new release with the correct audio.
Reuse the same ISRC, if appropriate.
Do not reuse the same UPC; assign a fresh one to distinguish the release.
Distribute the new release to DSPs.
Wait before removing the old release:
Generally, wait 48 hours (or up to 6 days for Apple Music) to allow linking and playlist continuity.
If you must remove it sooner, go ahead—but note potential loss of user favorites or context.
If racking doesn’t occur automatically, reach out to support and we’ll assist further.
Quick Summary Table
Scenario | Recommended Approach |
Minor technical fix (±2 sec) | Use Replace Audio feature and re-distribute |
Major change or wrong file | Create a new release with new UPC, keep ISRC if valid |
Maintain user continuity | Wait 48h (6d for Apple), then take down old release |
No automatic record linking | Contact support for manual assistance |
